Scott Fitzgerald completed “Gatsby le Magnifique” not in the United States, but on the French Riviera in 1924, imbuing his masterpiece with elegance and nostalgia, just as the “Jazz Age,” a term he had already coined two years earlier in another work, had just been born. A century later, Mélissa Lesnie, an Australian singer with a velvety voice and retro charm, plunges us back into this world, lulled by the echoes of ragtime and the standards of hot jazz and Tin Pan Alley, with the early successes of Gershwin and Irving Berlin. Alongside Jean-Baptiste Franc on piano, a true master of the 1920s style, Mélissa revives this golden twilight through foxtrots, charlestons, and blues from the Roaring Twenties, music one can easily imagine setting the rhythm for the social evenings of a certain Jay Gatsby.
