Overview
The exhibition proposes a dialogue between the work of contemporary French artist Claire Tabouret (°1981) and 18th-century works from the Musée Cognacq-Jay collection.
Each section juxtaposes her paintings, drawings, sculptures, tapestries, and ceramics with works from the Age of Enlightenment.
The exhibition explores portraiture and the emergence of the individual, the renewed representation of childhood, the appeal of travel and exoticism, and then the decorative arts. Claire Tabouret explores identity and human relationships.
She treats portraiture, self-portraiture, and child portraiture in a unique way, with the latter becoming a recurring and characteristic subject of her work. She conducts research into child psychology, appearances, and social norms.
Through these correspondences, a sensitive reflection on identity, memory, and intimacy is woven, between heritage and contemporary creation. The exhibition thus highlights the relevance of certain artistic questions across the centuries.
Finally, it invites visitors to cast a renewed gaze upon ancient works in the light of current creation.
