La Joie - Salle Réjane

& Arts Live LA JOIE From 1st October, the Théâtre de Paris welcomes a new creation to the Salle Réjane: La Joie.

A text by Gilles Treton Directed by Patrick Catalifo With Anne Benoît, Patrick Catalifo, Raphaëline Goupilleau and Gilles Treton Duration: 1h15 A mother lives with her unemployed son. These two survive together without complaining about their destitution.

And yet the rawness of their words conveys the anger that lives within them, permanent, like a travelling companion. Their relationship is harsh and sarcastic. The annual visit of the brother who fled this world, the one who “succeeded”, and his wife, disrupts this daily life.

The couple invites the mother to Brittany. She returns humiliated, wounded. Suddenly, this defeated mother and this failed son look at each other differently, united by a tenderness they never suspected. At the heart of the play, two emotions clash: anger and joy.

The first runs through the characters, isolates them, it is a source of misunderstandings and rejection. Facing it, joy appears as a bandage, placed on wounds. La Joie offers a journey through extreme and colourful feelings, where the brutality of words weakens family ties...
