"For years, Beethoven's Concerto has been my favourite to play and listen to; it's a piece that has made me mature over time. After arriving in France at the age of fourteen, I started playing it. Certain passages resonated very strongly with me, bringing back the nostalgia of my childhood in Serbia, and the joy of my new life in France. "
Many consider it "The concerto of concertos" and indeed with this Opus 61, Beethoven turned a page in the history of the genre. To the demonstrative virtuosity of some of his predecessors, he inaugurated a purely musical writing where he gave unprecedented importance to the orchestra; the tutti preceding the soloist's entry remains probably the longest in the repertoire. And what about the five initial, as strange as they are brilliant, timpani strokes!
