Gaîté l'été

From 30 June to 2 August, we'll be spending our lives on the terrace at La Gaîté Lyrique! DJ sets, workshops, discovery of living things, dance workshops, bar and gourmet food, ... We settle on the terrace and let it happen.

It feels like a holiday, doesn't it? Here's the full programme! In July, there's no need to leave Paris to feel the holidays arriving: just follow the birdsong from Square Émile Chautemps to the terrace of La Gaîté Lyrique, and let it happen.

The sun gently beats down, the trees filter the light. Next to us, there's a buzz of activity. People hurry from the terrace to the square, from the square to the terrace, hands full of leaves and branches, which will be used in the silkscreen poster workshop.

In the shade of the trees, the air is warm, the fountain water acts as a mist, summer is well and truly here, and the first sip of a cool drink finally arrives. Your poster dries in the sun. Next time, you might try perreo, or drag bingo. Then comes the golden hour.

Sunglasses still on your nose, the golden sun dazzles you, and the music takes over. The DJs set up, and so does the evening.

Everyone is there, in front of La Gaîté: teenagers, local residents, regulars, curious passers-by, even tourists tired of wandering the streets of Le Sentier. The terrace fills up, shy conversations eventually intertwine, people get up.

Chairs that get in the way slide away, immediately picked up by hands already laden with nachos dripping with cheddar. Soon, only dancing silhouettes can be distinguished. The moon appears without warning. You come for “just five minutes” and end up staying all evening.
