Greg Freeman excels at finding a form of emotional catharsis and contemporary resonance in the sometimes unsettling strangeness of the past. His songs all exude a strong sense of grounding, carried by an urgent performance and evocative writing that draws on history to tell embodied narratives of violence, loss, and revelation. On his second album Burnover, due out on August 22nd via Canvasback Music / Transgressive Records, this Maryland-born, Burlington, Vermont-based artist draws on the complex backdrop of the American Northeast to evoke grief, alienation, and the clarity that arises when one opens up to love. Both explosive, troubling, and obvious, these ten tracks blend energetic indie rock with nonchalant country accents. It is his most audacious and personal project to date, confirming his status as a unique songwriter.
