On the top floor of the Foundation, Lafayette Anticipations presents Vivresse, the first institutional exhibition in France dedicated to the artist Hélène Fauquet.
Vivresse – a contraction of the French words for life (vie) and intoxication (ivresse) – invites visitors to discover a state where vital force and desire become one.
Hélène Fauquet’s singular work illustrates a tension between ornamental forms and a conceptual dimension bordering on surrealism. Her recent work explores the themes of ornament and art, nature and artifice, as well as history and the present.
The shell has gauged the work and is ready to absorb it. Hélène Fauquet’s sculptures explore shells and the questions their forms raise. The genesis of these sculptures lies in the gesture of obliterating her photographs with a three-dimensional object – the shell.
Glamorously framed, these objects exude the shimmering allure of opaline niches. The frames go beyond their function as a mere presentation device to become a threshold to a sensitive and symbolic space.
Her work is interested in the residues of photography and the movement of images. In her recent exhibition Phenomena at Kunsthaus Glarus in Switzerland, she develops a phenomenological approach to perception and reflects on how information is stored.
