The Animal Architecte company embarks on an exploration of the relationship between architecture and power, delivering a light and facetious theatrical form.
Why do authoritarian powers always seem so obsessed with ancient columns, starting with Trump and his ballroom project? Why has the hashtag Empire exploded on social media, reflecting a masculine fascination with order and imperial aesthetics?
And how can the Bauhaus, a small modernist applied arts school in the Saxon province, active for about a dozen years and closed for over a century, represent a power struggle today? What sounds does a cultural war make?
Roman Empire (j'essaie d'apprendre à vivre avec la peur) will playfully attempt to answer these enigmas and explore the relationship between power and architecture by summoning a few ghosts, Roman or otherwise, and by posing the question from the very place where it is stated: a theatre.
The majesty of the architectures invoked will be met with a sober and rigorous, whimsical, fragile, and mischievous form.
