Professional, self-taught bassist, Michel Alibo accompanied Manu Dibango at 16! He has been active on the music scene for 50 years, playing all colours of music. Jazz, zouk, fusion, Afro-Caribbean or Maghrebi music, he imprints his style with a funky and groovy playing. Acoustic, electric fusion, traditional or contemporary, a sunny, smiling musician with sparkling eyes, he breathes music with the humility of the Greats he has accompanied: Eddy Louiss, Salif Keita, Andy Narell, Michel Jonasz, Kassav, Touré Kunda, Angélique Kidjo, Karim Ziad, Ralph Thamar, Edith Lefel, MC Solar, Les Nubians… Dancing with his electric bass and more recently with his double bass.
A pillar of recording studios in the 80s-90s, Michel Alibo is among the founders of essential musical experiences in jazz and Caribbean music: Sixun, Sakiyo, Sakésho, and forged a long companionship with pianist Mario Canonge. Surrounded by the cream of the crop of the new wave of Antillean jazzmen, with a sense of transmission, Michel Alibo, as a leader, invites us to experience a musical and timeless rainbow.
