Jihad DARWICHE at La Vagabonde A Saturday for Storytelling is a unique formula for approaching or deepening storytelling in an interdisciplinary way. "Light" in terms of price and duration, it is accessible to everyone, regulars and the curious alike. The performance allows for broadening the circle, and the shared dinner formula contributes to the convivial dimension.

This formula combines:

• a limited-duration storytelling workshop (3 hours)
• a storytelling performance, by the same storyteller-trainer

It is at once a hive (where people meet and reconnect), an adventure (where one tries their hand at storytelling), a journey (a storyteller draws you into their specific universe), and a perspective (one "tastes" the learning of a storyteller without committing to a full course).

1001 Nuits Workshop

The workshop begins with a brief history of the 1001 Nights, and an overview of the strengths of this repertoire, as well as its universality and longevity, with some keys to entering the world of the Nights. We will then work on the frame story, that is, the story of Shéhérazade which gives strength and meaning to all the tales that follow.

Evening: Mille et Une Nuits

The time of dreamers. Slightly strange characters, men or women, gentle dreamers who drift through life with nonchalance and poetry. Their gestures and words carry the scent, wisdom, and humour of the Orient. 1h10

Jihad Darwiche was born in Marwaniyé, a small village in Southern Lebanon. His childhood was lulled by tales, poetic jousts which are still very popular today, and traditional Oriental stories told by his mother and the women of the neighbourhood. He then lived in the old city of Saïda, where the storytelling tradition is still vibrant. In the narrow streets, neighbours spend their mornings discussing from one window to another and recounting their night's dreams (true fairy tales) while drinking cardamom coffee…
