The Spinners first gained national recognition during their Motown period with the track “It’s a Shame,” produced and co-written by Stevie Wonder.

The song reached number 14 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became a huge R&B hit, paving the way for the group’s ascent in the following years.

Their greatest commercial success came in the 1970s when Henry Fambrough, Billy Henderson, Pervis Jackson, Bobbie Smith, and Philippé Wynne collaborated with producer Thom Bell.

Together, they helped define the sophisticated sound of Philadelphia soul and racked up a string of hits.

Tracks like “I’ll Be Around,” “Could It Be I’m Falling in Love,” “Then Came You,” and “The Rubberband Man” became radio classics and established The Spinners as one of the most essential groups of their era.

Over the years, the group received six Grammy Award nominations, earned 18 gold and platinum records, sold millions of albums worldwide, and was honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
