Thomas Fersen

and La ScalaComme on quitte un imperméable is an adaptation of the eponymous novel by Thomas Fersen, to be published by Seuil in May 26. A co-production of Zouave and La Scala, this show, directed by Samuel Achache, will premiere this summer in Avignon, then play in Paris and throughout France until summer 2028.

Peppered with new songs and those from his repertoire, and performed by Thomas Fersen accompanied by three musicians, Comme on quitte un imperméable tells in octosyllables how, after discouraging beginnings in music and losing his part-time job as a cable layer, the hero is sent to Mexico by his father. Tender and funny, Thomas Fersen lends his own youthful memories to his apprentice globe-trotter. With fantasy, he evokes the exoticism and luxuriance, the devotion and religiosity of the lands he explores, offering us an allegorical vision of his adventures. An initiatory journey, an epic as piquant as it is preposterous, the dangers to which the hero exposes himself are so many rituals of passage to adulthood. Tender and funny, Comme on quitte un imperméable carries us away with the poetic power of its writing. Author, composer, and performer, Thomas Fersen is a singular figure in French chanson with his inimitable sense of evocation.
