About — The artist

Eluveitie (/ɛlˈveɪti/) is a Swiss folk metal band from Winterthur, in the canton of Zurich. The band was formed in 2002 by Chrigel Glanzmann, and their first EP, Vên, was released in 2003, followed by their debut studio album, Spirit, in June 2006. In November 2007, Eluveitie signed with the Nuclear Blast label. The first track from this collaboration, Slania, was released in February 2008. The album reached number 35 on the Swiss music charts and number 72 on the German music charts. In April 2009, an acoustic album, Evocation I - The Arcane Dominion, was released. This was followed in February 2010 by Everything Remains as It Never Was. Eluveitie released Helvetios, another folk metal album, in 2012. The band released a new album on 1 August 2014, Origins.

In 2015, Nicole Ansperger left the band and was replaced by Shir-Ran Yinon, before rejoining Eluveitie in July 2016. In May 2016, following differences of opinion and conflicts of interest, Anna Murphy, Merlin Sutter, and Ivo Henzi left the band and were replaced by new musicians in 2017, before the release of the album Evocation II. On 5 April 2019, the band released Ategnatos, their eighth album. The next album, Ànv, is due out in 2025.

The band is known for using traditional medieval or Celtic musical instruments, such as flutes, bagpipes, violins, and hurdy-gurdies. The lyrics of some songs are written in Gaulish, reconstructed or transcribed from ancient inscriptions. Eluveitie takes its name from an Etruscan graffiti found in Mantua referring to the Helvetii.
