About — The artist
Panchiko are a British indie rock band from Nottingham, England. Formed between 1997 and 1998, the original line-up consisted of lead vocalist and guitarist Owain Davies, guitarist/keyboardist Andrew “Andy” Wright, bassist Shaun Ferreday, and a drummer named John. A year after Panchiko's revival in 2020, the band was joined by two new members, guitarist Robert “Rob” Harris and John Schofield, who replaced their original drummer.
The band gained public attention in 2016 when a 4chan user discovered their 2000 EP D>E>A>T>H>M>E>T>A>L in a Nottingham Oxfam shop and shared it online. The EP achieved Lostwave status and spawned a fan community dedicated to finding the band members. This continued until 2020, when Davies was found and contacted by a fan via Facebook.
Panchiko have since released two compilation albums remastering their old music: a reissue of D>E>A>T>H>M>E>T>A>L combining their first two EPs (D>E>A>T>H>M>E>T>A>L and Kicking Cars) and Ferric Oxide (Demos 1997-2001). In December 2021, the band played their first gig in over twenty years in their hometown of Nottingham. They then embarked on their first US tour. By November 2021, they had accumulated over 10 million streams on Spotify. By April 2025, they had over 1.5 million monthly listeners.
The band's debut album, Failed at Math(s), was released on 5 May 2023, followed by their second full US tour.
On 22 November 2024, Panchiko announced their second album “Ginkgo”, accompanied by a music video for the album's title track. The album was finally released on 4 April 2025, and a tour was announced to promote it in the US, UK, and Europe.
