About — The artist
Andriy Mykhailovych Danylko (in Ukrainian: Андрій Михайлович Данилко), born on 2 October 1973 in Poltava (Ukraine), is a comedian and pop music singer/dancer.
On stage, he performs in drag as a robust female character, under the name of Verka Serduchka (in Ukrainian: Вєрка Сердючка).
He first performed sketches as this character on the comedy scene in the early 1990s. He was soon noticed by Ukrainian television, which gave him carte blanche. He sang and performed in numerous music videos satirising Ukrainian society, often with his partner who played the role of his mother. Very quickly, his songs achieved unexpected success, and Verka recorded several albums. His album Kha-ra-cho was a success, selling over a million copies in Eastern Europe. He began extensive tours that took him as far as Canada and the United States. His goal is to convey positive emotion with every song. In 2005, he participated in the Novaya Volna competition, an international contest for young pop singers. There, he received congratulations from the biggest Russian star of the time, Alla Pugacheva.
