About — The venue
The 11th arrondissement of Paris is one of the twenty arrondissements of Paris, France. It is located on the Right Bank of the Seine between Place de la Nation, Place de la République, and Place de la Bastille.
Less touristy than the arrondissements located further west, the 11th has played an exceptional role in the history of Paris and France. It was at the heart of revolutionary Paris and the great workers' revolts of the 19th century. Formerly a working-class district with a dense network of artisanal businesses, the 11th arrondissement is now primarily a residential but also a "trendy" district, particularly around Place de la Bastille, Rue Oberkampf, Rue Saint-Maur, or Rue de Lappe, due to the establishment of numerous bars and nightclubs.
Under the terms of article R2512-1 of the General Code of Territorial Collectivities, it is also known as the "arrondissement de Popincourt," but this name is rarely used in everyday life.
