Lecture: C'était la banlieue en 1970: a world in profound change
In Paris as in the suburbs, the 1970s were marked by three major upheavals: the overhaul of local political institutions, the end of the golden age of industrial cities, and the beginning of the disintegration of 'red Paris' and the 'red suburbs'. During this period, the final chapters of the history of Greater Paris were being written just as the 'suburban crisis' began to hit the headlines.
