For the festive season, let there be light! Between intimate fervour and celestial trumpets, this Christmas programme culminates in the dazzling collective jubilation of Bach's Magnificat.
To celebrate Christmas, this programme revolves around Johann Sebastian Bach's Magnificat, a vast fresco of joy and light bringing together choir, orchestra and soloists. Bach unfolds a collective exultation, interspersed with more intimate, almost suspended moments.
In echo, two cantatas illuminate its contrasts: BWV 115, of Lutheran inspiration, invites contemplation and inner listening. Conversely, BWV 191, Gloria in excelsis Deo, bursts forth as a jubilant song of praise.
Between intimate fervour and festive brilliance, this programme portrays a profoundly human Bach, where Christmas becomes both celebration and meditation.
