Published almost 100 years ago, Virginia Woolf's eponymous novel recounts the incredible epic of a young aristocrat across centuries and genders. Published almost 100 years ago, Virginia Woolf's eponymous novel recounts the incredible epic of a young aristocrat across centuries and genders. First a man then a woman after a long sleep, Orlando remains immutable in their personality. What changes is the historical context, the gaze cast upon them, and societal constraints. Katia Ferreira seizes this avant-garde novelistic material and shifts the present of its writing to that of its representation, extending the contemporary resonances of this audacious fresco which describes an eminently modern identity fluidity. Between theatre, music, and live cinema, costume and focal changes, she orchestrates a succession of eras and landscapes around this romantic and dreamy soul, a being of metamorphoses and a metaphor for free will.
