PHILOPÉRA, Inaugural Concert at Palais Garnier

Some evenings only happen once. This is one of them. This concert marks the birth of Philopéra, the symphonic initiative led by musicians from the Opéra de Paris. Accustomed to the orchestra pit, these musicians are now taking to the stage to let the Parisian public hear their unique sound, forged through contact with the greatest voices of our time, and the full flexibility of their playing, nurtured by years of performing the operatic repertoire. At their invitation, Daniel Harding, one of the greatest conductors of his generation, opens the first chapter of this new story in the exceptional setting of the Palais Garnier. On the programme:

Franz Schubert, Symphony No. 3

Gustav Mahler, Symphony No. 1 « Titan  »

This programme is no coincidence. Schubert, the greatest melodist of his time, imbues his symphonies with the same melodic vein as his lieder. Mahler, an immense opera conductor as well as a composer, brings the breath of song and theatre into the symphonic form. These two composers crossed the boundary between the lyrical and the symphonic, just like the musicians of Philopéra, who are moving from the pit to the stage. Be their witnesses!
