Born in Liège, Belgium, and usually based between Paris and Mexico City, the press cartoonist (Le Monde, Libération, Les Inrocks, Le 1 Hebdo, Beaux-Arts Magazine…) and comic book author François Olislaeger travelled to Iceland in the summer of 2025. Drifting like an iceberg after a breakup, he journeyed alone across the island for ten days. Initially a trip of mourning and lost loves, François Olislaeger ultimately delivers a sensitive and humorous illustrated account. A journey of transformation (of lights, sky, ectoplasmic forms) and of the self rediscovered, one is captivated by the vivid, organic beauty of the landscapes he renders with a simple line – mountains resting on the sea, gigantic valleys, endless fields of pebbles, basalt columns, lava concretions, the black sand beach of Reynisfjara – but also by the silences, the one he traverses, the one within the panels. And, as the pages and days pass, the pervasive feeling that the fog is lifting. Librairie Voyageurs is delighted to welcome François Olislaeger on Thursday, September 3, for the launch of his Carnets d'Islande, published by Gallimard (Le Sentiment géographique collection), and the opening of his exhibition, where it will be possible to acquire some of his drawings. A convivial cocktail will conclude the meeting.
