Dive into the history of the world's first international seaport: Byblos, which played a key role in Mediterranean history, connecting the Lebanese coast to Egypt, Mesopotamia, and the Aegean world from high antiquity, forging unique ties with the pharaohs, and playing a major role in the spread of the Phoenician alphabet. Exhibition organised by the Institut du monde arabe and the Ministry of Culture / Directorate General of Antiquities of Lebanon (DGA) with the exceptional collaboration of the Louvre Museum, based on an original idea by the National Museum of Antiquities in Leiden and the DGA. Obelisk of Abishemou, mosaic of the Abduction of Europa…: 400 exceptional pieces, displayed in a spectacular scenography, immerse you in the epic of this city, one of the oldest in Lebanon, classified on the UNESCO World Heritage list. A history that began more than 8900 years ago, whose protagonists are navigators and merchants, kings and pharaohs. Discover exclusively: the latest discoveries of the ancient port and the results of the most recent excavations, which have unearthed the South Gate of the city and a Bronze Age necropolis, exceptionally preserved intact to this day.
