A Polish lady lives in a retirement home. She is 98 years old, her name is Irena, and her appearance as a wrinkled old apple gives no hint of the heroic actions she accomplished during the Second World War: 2500 Jewish children saved from the Warsaw Ghetto and deportation. While three high school students from Kansas, Liz, Megan, and Sabrina, investigate the life of this heroine, Irena, in her room, summons the ghosts of her past. She reconstructs fragments of a fading memory, so that the unimaginable remains forever etched. This polymorphic show tightly weaves together fiction and historical reality, past and present, flesh-and-blood actresses and object-puppets. Juste Irena recounts the evils of yesterday to prevent those of today, resonates with notions of courage and humanity, and illuminates both grand History and small stories. But there are no grand or small stories in life: there is LIFE!
