The actress makes her way through L'Amant, by Marguerite Duras, a text both hated and adored, hand in hand with the young girl from the novel, the one who crosses the Mekong River on a ferry and believes she is falling in love.
Arriving on the other bank, she will have left her childhood and her family to discover the power of desire.
To embody this novel is to embrace all its complexity: the sticky colonialism, the unresolved unease of the young girl's prostitution, maternal madness, black humour, and that eroticism that crops up everywhere, even where one would rather not find it.
During this reading-performance, Noémie Gantier presents the first stage of this epic show.
