For her latest creation, Marina Otero delivers a deeply moving piece. She plunges us into a physical and irreverent theatre that rebels against injustice, not without humour or cynicism. Without mincing her words, she blends the intimate with the political and confronts love with History.

From romantic encounter to thwarted love, the Argentine artist questions colonialism, guilt, and the necessity of challenging what resides within her: her Westernized gaze, her illusions of repair, and her thirst to save the other. It all begins with a project of mutual rescue.

Confronted with solitude, Marina Otero embarks on a journey to Tangier with the idea of rescuing a man by marrying him, and by giving him papers and a life in Europe.

From this story, she aspires to create a work of autofiction; but her encounter with Ayoub turns everything upside down.

The abstract idea of a project of mutual salvation shatters upon contact with reality and gives way to a performance where the intimate story is coupled with a radical social denunciation.

Marina Otero chooses to name her show AYOUB, a common name in the Islamic world and borne by hundreds of children killed by the Zionist state of Israel in Gaza.

AYOUB thus becomes the symbol of a reality marked by violence and suffering in Palestine, drawing a parallel between personal history and collective tragedy. Marina Otero recounts a thwarted love story in Tangier, impacted by Gaza, colonialism, and what a name can carry.
