« FUGACES » de Aina Alegre - CCN de Grenoble & STUDIO FICTIF

FUGACES is intended as a free interpretation of the dance of one of flamenco's greatest “bailaoras,” Carmen Amaya. Bringing together a fine team of multiple talents, choreographer Aina Alegre inscribes La Amaya's steps into our era, she who constantly challenged the codes of flamenco. FUGACES is both a distanced homage and a beautiful escape.

Carmen Amaya could only haunt the imagination of Aina Alegre, the prolific choreographer now at the head of the Centre chorégraphique de Grenoble.

But for Aina Alegre, nostalgia gives way to modernity, that of La Amaya, the gypsy whom Hollywood courted, a strong woman in a man's world, a myth in spite of herself.

FUGACES lives up to its title, an opus playing with rhythm, summoning a miniature brass band to the stage or unfolding a round dance, an open waistcoat over the chest or a skirt panel over trousers to keep a certain flamenco folklore at bay.

More than once, the show draws us into a fiesta, with dancers diverting the typical flamenco footwork or arched poses. For Aina Alegre, Carmen Amaya is a “revenant,” a kind of benevolent ghost guarding this creation of wild energy.
