Overview
Sébastien Farge Quartet & the Limoges Opera Orchestra
8pm Duration 1h45
Accordionist and composer, Sébastien Farge brings together his quartet and the Orchestre Symphonique de l'Opéra de Limoges Nouvelle-Aquitaine for an orchestral version of Origines (2022), under the direction of Chloé Meyzie. An advisor to Maugein, the last French accordion manufacturer based in Tulle, Sébastien Farge maintains a deep connection with instrument making as well as with musical composition. For his album Origines, released on the Laborie Jazz label in 2022, Sébastien Farge gathered what was deepest within him to give, and offer, the accordion new titles to conquer, affirming the beauty of this instrument and its sound world. This approach was nurtured by decisive encounters, notably with Sylvain Luc, Bernard Cavanna and Roland Romanelli. Rewritten the following year for the Orchestre symphonique de l'Opéra de Limoges Nouvelle-Aquitaine, Origines unfolds in an XXL version with Origines Symphonic. Under the direction of conductor Chloé Meyzie, joined by the Sébastien Farge Quartet, the forty musicians compose a sound architecture where the accordion plays both the role of soloist and a voice among voices, illuminating the timbral richness and mechanical complexity of an instrument too often confined to its popular uses.
