« Danser c’est pas pour nous » d’Omar Rajeh / Maqamat

With "Danser, c’est pas pour nous", Lebanese choreographer Omar Rajeh delivers a deeply intimate and political work, at the crossroads of autobiographical narrative, performance, and contemporary dance. Alone on stage, he invokes the body as a place of memory, archive, and resistance.

Nourished by over twenty years of creation between Beirut, the Arab world, and Europe, this piece powerfully questions the relationships between art, power, and existence. What does it mean to dance in a territory marked by war, loss, and fractures? To whom does dance belong?

And what can the body still do in the face of structures of domination, erasure, or oblivion? Between speech, movement, and presence, Omar Rajeh traces back a personal and collective past, exploring the marks left by history on bodies.

Here, dancing becomes an act of resistance, a way to bring forth memory, to question dominant narratives, and to open a space where past, present, and future dialogue. A powerful and luminous work, where dance reveals itself as a vital, political, and profoundly human gesture.
