Overview
El Cuervo (the crow in Spanish) is the nickname given to an extraordinary Chilean theatre man: Óscar Castro Ramírez. Founder of the mythical Teatro Aleph, this playwright leaves, at the heart of a prolific body of work, an autobiographical account where he recounts his experience in concentration camps under Pinochet's dictatorship in 1973.
Today, his two sons, Cosme and Oscar, stage this posthumous text in a form as poignant as it is inventive, nourished by their trip to Chile in their father's footsteps.
Through a setup combining reading, documentary images, and shadow theatre, the show, illustrated on stage by Jeanne Frenkel, celebrates the power of imagination. In captivity, el Cuervo invents a world behind the barbed wire.
Each week, a play is born in the refectory: a vital rendezvous that transforms the daily lives of hundreds of prisoners. With this intimate investigation, the two brothers paint the portrait of a man who made theatre an act of resistance.
« A testimony where poetry, pain, and humour intertwine. A documentary research that finds its theatrical form in a radically simple, refined setup.
» Radio Libertaire « Cuervo celebrates the power of creation and imagination as weapons against oppression and the darkness of the world.
