In Florence, in 1537, young Lorenzo de Médicis feigns debauchery to get close to Duke Alexandre and prepare his assassination. But his solitary act, intended to liberate the city, primarily reveals collective powerlessness and the cowardice of the republican elites.
With Lorenzaccio, David Bobée offers a powerful reinterpretation of the romantic masterpiece, fuelled by a clear political statement. His adaptation merges the versions by George Sand and Alfred de Musset, restoring the rightful place of a matriarchal heritage long invisibilised.
As always with this director, the strength of the show lies notably in a striking scenography, a metaphor for a city in ruins, and an intergenerational and inclusive cast.
