Same Old Songs

“What, in your opinion, can be done to prevent war?” At a time when the world is faltering, choreographer Maud Blandel draws inspiration from Virginia Woolf’s work Three Guineas to counter the feeling of powerlessness that sometimes inhabits us, through the creation of an explosive trio.

In 1938, Virginia Woolf wrote Three Guineas, an epistolary novel in which she demonstrates how war is, structurally, a masculine affair.

Today, as international conflicts rage, Maud Blandel takes this text as a starting point and composes a collective hallucination for three dancers, drawing on psychedelic imaginaries to overturn established structures.

In the vein of L’Œil nu, presented at the TPM in 2024, Maud Blandel continues her research into sound dramaturgy, sound/movement relationships, and intense bodies, sometimes seized by rhythm, sometimes stunned.

In a percussive, ultra-energetic, and disorganised flow, where every attempt to march in step is deliberately sabotaged, Same Old Songs offers a heterotopia refusing any warlike project and thereby gives body to another future.
