Overview

"What are you doing after the citizens' assembly? – I'm going to see Sophocles' latest play, it's supposed to be wonderful." This 2500-year-old dialogue, found on a pottery shard, plunges us into the time of the first Greek tragedies as much as into that of Athenian democracy.

In 1896, Madeleine, a mysterious patient who would spend her life on tiptoes, claimed to levitate. Facing her, a fascinated doctor attempts to unravel the enigma through hypnosis and bring her back to reason. Inspired by a dark chapter in medical history, Valentine Losseau creates a fascinating work centered on the poignant destiny of so-called hysterical women, torn between incomprehension and resistance. In a prodigious stage setting, bodies seem to float. Carried by Leïla Ka's choreography, this theatre of realities becomes a dizzying sensory journey. "A madness that you discover with wide eyes, pinching your neighbour who, himself, remains speechless. " Libération "Valentine Losseau invents dizzying worlds. She has elevated illusion to the rank of art. " Le Nouvel Obs
