With the Festival d’Automne. A sensual duo guided by slow-motion movements, LOUNGE explores the relaxation of bodies and the comfort of rest as an act of affirmation of femininities.
On stage, two performers support, brush against, and look at each other. Through simple, erotic, and slowed-down gestures, they construct a space where desire circulates without ever imposing itself.
Contact, breath, and gaze become the main vectors of a sensuality where the boundaries between the one who acts and the one who receives constantly shift.
The title plays on two uses of the word 'lounge' in English: a verb meaning to relax idly; a noun designating a public space for relaxation.
A Lisbon-based artist imbued with the cultures and sounds of the African diaspora, Marga Alfeirão develops a choreographic style where the body becomes a political and sensitive space. With LOUNGE, she deploys a dance of gaze, detail, suggestion, and desire.
By creating safe spaces to explore intimacy and sexuality through feminine and feminised perspectives, the choreographer asserts an aesthetic of rest and pleasure as gestures of resistance against logics of exhibition and performance.
